Mapping & Hydrographic Surveys Pty Ltd has gained extensive experience in all marine environments, from the open ocean, harbours, dams and creeks. MHS specializes in remote locations and has the technological knowledge and equipment to accurately identify the seabed and sub-seabed for Greenfield Port Investigations, Engineering Design, Dredging Surveys and Under Keel Clearance Surveys.

  • Brisbane Airport Development stage 1 – 1984 to 1986; stage 2 – 1991 to 1992; stage 3 – 2006; stage 4 – 2014 to 2015.
    Pre dredging and reclamation investigation surveys including Single-beam and Multi-beam Bathymetry: Sub Bottom Profiling; 2D Marine Reflection Geophysical; Marine Refraction Seismic, Side Scan Sonar and Magnetometer Surveys; tidal and current studies.
    During dredging operations and post dredging MHS carried out Dredging support surveys and dredge spoil monitoring surveys.

  • Purari River – 2012 Bathymetric cross-section profiles and ADCP current monitoring over 120 kilometres of the Purari River, Gulf Province PNG, to provide base data for a hydraulic study for the development of a major Hydroelectric Scheme.   
  • Daru Papua New Guinea new port study – 2006 and 2011 Hydrographic and Marine Geophysical Investigations for Greenfield Port Site development including Multibeam Bathymetry, 2D Marine Reflection Geophysical, Side Scan Sonar, Magnetometer Tidal and Current Surveys. 
  • Sepik River – 2011 Charting of 300 kilometres of the Sepik River including site surveys and offshore vessel anchoring sites for transfer of cargo using two vessels of opportunity fitted with multibeam bathymetric systems. 
  • Aird River Delta PNG – 2009 Survey and Charting of some 120 kilometres of river channels from the Gulf of Papua for navigation of service barges and other shipping to the OilSearch/ExxonMobil Kopi Base and Bathymetric and 2D Marine Geophysical Survey for new wharf sites. 
  • Port site investigations at Hall Sound, Cape Possession and Caution Bay to the north west of Port Moresby for termination of Esso Highlands gas pipeline and proposed LNG plant sites 2008
  • PNG – QLD Gas Pipeline – Greenfield site investigations, preliminary, Mapping, Charting and Reconnaissance Surveys 1997 – Landing Sites, Approaches, River and Inshore Route Survey Investigations 2000, Nearshore realignments 2006, including Multibeam and Singlebeam Bathymetry, Marine Reflection Geophysical, Side Scan Sonar Surveys, Magnetometer Surveys and Tidal and Current Studies.   
  • Chevron/OilSearch PIMP Surveys – MHS has carried out Pipeline Integrity Monitoring Program (PIMP) surveys in the Gulf of Papua river systems and offshore to the Kumul Platform in 1994, 1997, 2002 2006 and 2011.  In 1994 by intuitive approach MHS was able to reduce the cost of the PIMP survey by more than 50%.  In 1997 MHS was again able to reduce the cost of the PIMP survey by using it’s own vessel mobilized from Brisbane.
  • Lihir PNG 2010 – Several surveys for monitoring during construction of a sea bund wall to form a tailings dam
  • Harbour City Marine Facility development area Port Moresby Harbour in association with Arman Larmer Surveys Ltd PNG – 2009.
  • Bathymetric Survey of the existing pipeline and six point mooring system of the Mobil offshore loading facility in Port Moresby Harbour together with liaising and working with divers provided by the client for the positioning of the mooring buoys and pipeline and for the gathering and analysis of seabed samples in association with Arman Larmer Surveys Ltd PNG – 2009.

  • Whitsunday Power Cables – Mainland to Long and Hamilton Island 1988 and replacement cable 2006, Mainland to Hayman 1998 and Mainland to Daydream and South Mole Islands 2001 including Multibeam and Singlebeam Bathymetry, Marine Reflection Geophysical and Side Scan Sonar Surveys and Tidal and Current Studies.
  • South Australia – Mainland to Kangaroo Island crossing Backstairs Passage 1991-1992 including Singlebeam Bathymetry, Marine Reflection Geophysical and Side Scan Sonar Surveys and Tidal and Current Studies.
  • Victoria – Bass Strait Submarine Cable nearshore hydrographic and onshore land survey investigations of several sites on both the Victorian and Tasmanian sides to determine the best landing sites 1992. 
  • Harvey Bay Queensland Power Cable – Mainland to Fraser Island 1988 including Singlebeam Bathymetry, Marine Reflection Geophysical, Side Scan Sonar Surveys, Tidal and Current Studies.

Commissioned by the relevant authority, MHS has recently been involved with the evaluation of seabed topography and Port Development Investigations for Under Keel Clearance for shipping in the following areas:
